Our Adoption Fees
Adoption fees help cover the cost of our dogs’ care while they’re with us, which can vary depending on a dog’s age and medical needs.
Dogs Over a Year Old$350
Spayed or neutered and fully vetted.
Puppies Under a Year Old$395
Plus a $100 refundable deposit until your puppy is spayed or neutered.
Depending on where you live, a transport fee may also apply. Learn about transport.
What’s Included
Every dog comes fully vetted, including:
- Spay or neuter before adoption, unless too young or medically unable at the time
- Rabies, Distemper/Parvo and Bordetella vaccines, given when age-appropriate
- Heartworm test, and treatment if positive
- Current on heartworm, flea and tick prevention
- Tested and treated for internal parasites
- Microchipped to HH with a lifetime registration, with your info included
- Any other medically necessary treatment to give them a healthy start with their new family
Puppies who still need shots: Helpless Hounds will either pay your vet directly or reimburse you for the remaining shots only. Puppies adopted within 1 hour of Tulsa must have those shots done at one of our approved veterinary hospitals. You schedule the visit and confirm it with us, and it’s booked under Helpless Hounds’ account.
Puppies & the Foster to Adopt Agreement
If a dog is too young or not healthy enough to be spayed or neutered before adoption, you’ll sign our Foster to Adopt Agreement and pay a $100 refundable deposit when you take your dog home. The adoption is complete once you send proof of the procedure through our alteration confirmation form.
The terms of the Foster to Adopt Agreement
- If adopting a puppy under 1 year old, you agree to spay or neuter between 6 months and 1 year of age, depending on the breed, or at the time approved by a veterinarian. If a dog can’t be altered due to special circumstances (such as heartworm treatment), you agree to follow what a veterinarian approves for the surgery.
- Dogs adopted within 1 hour of Tulsa must have the procedure done at one of our local vet hospitals. You schedule it and confirm with Helpless Hounds, and it’s booked under Helpless Hounds’ account.
- Adopters more than 1 hour from Tulsa may use one of our approved Tulsa vets or their own vet. If you use your own vet, attach a copy of the paid bill to the alteration confirmation form, and we’ll consider the adoption complete.
- Personal vets may charge more than $100 for the procedure. You agree to cover any fees above the $100 refundable deposit.
- If a Helpless Hounds dog is not altered within a reasonable time, Helpless Hounds will reclaim the dog.
