ADOPT & FOSTER
As a dedicated hound rescue organization, Helpless Hounds has discovered countless ways to make a positive difference in the lives and welfare of dogs both in Oklahoma and the surrounding states. In an ideal world, every furry friend would have a forever home; therefore, we do our best each and every day to secure just that for every dog that comes through our doors. A rescue would be nothing without fosters and adopters willingly opening their homes and their hearts.
Considering Adoption?Providing a Fur-Ever Home Is a
Lifetime Commitment That Is 1000% Worth It All dogs that are currently available for adoption can be found on our Petfinder page. The adoption application is the first step in our adoption process. A fully processed application is required in order to adopt. |
Our adoption fee is $295 for an altered dog and $395 for a not-yet-altered dog. If the pet is too young or not unhealthy enough to be sterilized prior to adoption, Adopter agrees to sign and to abide by the terms of Helpless Hound's Foster to Adopt Agreement, and to include a $100 refundable deposit to be paid at time of possession of the dog. Upon proof of the sterilization procedure, which MUST be submitted via the alternation confirmation form, adoption will be considered complete. Depending on location of Adopter, a transport fee may also apply. For information about what is included in the adoption fee, click here.
A successful adoption depends on both the selection of the right dog for your household and the understanding of the dog's care-taking needs. Our application and matching processes for our dogs are thorough to ensure a good fit and lifetime commitment. We check veterinary records, speak with personal references, and talk to landlords when applicable.
Our application covers many aspects of pet ownership including personal lifestyle, home situations, family dynamics, and previous pet experience, allowing us to find the perfect fit for our furry friends.
When multiple applications are received, the best match for that pet is carefully selected. We do not operate on a “first-apply-first-acquire” basis, and we do not do same-day adoptions or meet-and-greets prior to pre-approval for adoption.

Fosters Open DoorsYour Help Keeps Us Running
Fosters are the heart and soul of our organization. We are 100% foster-based, meaning that we do not have a brick-and-mortar shelter. Our amazing network of fosters is what allows us to continually say "yes" to the constant stream of incoming dogs that we see on a daily basis. When you foster, we provide all supplies needed, and all we ask is that you provide the care, love, and support (and occasionally a trip to the vet) that our dogs need until they find their forever homes. Fosters also get the special privilege of sharing insider info with potential adopters while trying to find the right fit! This process also puts fosters in a unique position to be able to test the waters on their very own future adoption! |
Our fosters also go through a thorough application process to ensure their homes, lifestyles, and abilities align with the needs of our dogs. Once approved, our fosters are added to our foster group, where they have access to all requests for fosters, both short and longer-term.

the world will change forever."

"We love fostering for Helpless Hounds because nothing is better than puppy snuggles & snowy walks, except knowing that we are helping the sweetest hounds find their forever families. That’s the best!"

"When you look into the eyes of an abandoned, abused, or surrendered dog, and all you see is love...that's
why I foster. I want them to feel the love from me that they show me. Happiness starts with a wet nose and ends with a tail!" - Diana H. |
“We love fostering with Helpless Hounds! They are all such wonderful and caring people to their pups and volunteers. They provide support
and all necessary essentials to make it easy on us!” - Allison & Chris R. |
